Mila Kunis is speaking out against sexism–and it’s not destroying her career at all.
On A Plus on Wednesday, the actress opened up on a situation that happened when a producer requested that she pose semi-nude on a magazine cover to promote one of her films, something she refused to do. This could’ve come off as a risk since the producer apparently told her that if she didn’t go along with it, then she would “never work in this town again.”
Clearly, that producer didn’t know what the hell he was talking about.
“The film made a lot of money and I did work in this town again, and again, and again,” Kunis revealed. “What this producer may never realize is that he spoke aloud the exact fear every woman feels when confronted with gender bias in the workplace.”
Kunis is a successful actress with film credits that include Black Swan, Ted and Friends With Benefits. She’s also known as Jackie on That 70’s Show where she met her future husband, Ashton Kutcher, and became a mom to her two-year-old daughter, Wyatt. The actress is currently expecting the couple’s second child.
This is something that made an impact on Kunis since her relationship status was something used to promote her career. When she was trying to promote a show, there were follow-up emails that pointed out that she is “Ashton’s wife and baby momma.”
“If this is happening to me, it is happening more aggressively to women everywhere,” Kunis wrote. “I am fortunate that I have reached a place that I can stop compromising and stand my ground, without fearing how I will put food on my table.”
